Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate concentration.
equipment: A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, a test tube rack, 10 ml measuring cylinder.

Method:
  1. Place the six test tubes in a test tube rack. Lable the rack with numbers 1-6.
  2. Using the measuring cylinder, fill test tube 1 with 10 ml of water. Fill the remaining test tube with 5 ml of water.
  3. Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tub 1.
  4. Gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved.
  5. using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5ml from test tube 1 and pour in into test tube 2.
  6. Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that no purple solution remains.
  7. Gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process, transferring exactly 5 ml of solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3.
  8. Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tubes 4, 5 and 6.

Observations:   During the expermient,as we added the liwuid from test tube 1 to test tube 2 it started to gewt lighter and lighter each time and started to lose colour as we asdded it to more test tubes.

She throws a box/casket down to Lorenzo.

Science 9HH

Science Experiment

EQUIPMENT: A TENNIS BALL, METER RULER AND A CLAMP.

AIM: MAKE A BRIEF STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSE OF YOUR INVESTIGATION.
IN THIS EXPERIMENT, I AM TO WATCH THE HEIGHT A BALL IS BOUNCED FROM AND HOW HIGH THE FIRST BOUNCE SO I AM OBSERVING BOTH OF THE HEIGHTS THE BALL IS THROWN FROM.

HYPOTHESIS: MAKE A PREDICTION OF WHAT YOU EXPECT TO OBSERVE DURING YOUR INVESTIGATION.
I EXPECT TO SEE THAT THE BALL WILL NOT COME AS FAR UP AS WHERE I DROPPED IT FROM.I THINK THAT IT WILL BE A LITTLE UNDER FROM WHERE I DROP IT FROM.

METHOD: GIVE A STEP BY STEP DESCRIPTION HOW YOUR EXPERIMENT IS TO BE CARRIED OUT.
FIRSTLY I'LL GATHER UP THE EQUIPMENT I NEED, SECONDLY, I WILL SET UP EVERYTHING UP LIKE THE RETORT STAND, THIRDLY ILL PLACE THE BALL WHERE IT SHOULD BE, LASTLY, ILL WATCH HOW FAR THE HEIGHT THAT THE BALL BOUNCES.

KEY VARIABLES

DEPENDANT: I'LL MEASURE HOW HIGH I DROP THE BALL FROM.AND THE HIGHT IT GOES.

INDEPENDENT: I'LL CHANGE THE HIGHT TO SEE IF ANYTHING CHANGES.

CONTROL: I'LL BE IN CONTROL OF MY PROJECT AND EXPERIMENT.

HEIGHTS?
DROPPED FROM
1) 100CM
2) 200M
3) 50CM
4) 70CM
5) 10CM

BOUNCE
1) 52.5CM
2) 72.3CM
 3) 17.5CM
4) 36CM
5) 13.5CM

DISCUSSION: WE DISCUSSED HOW OUR PROJECT TURNED OUT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE THOUGHT.

CONCLUSION: WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT DROPPED A BIT UNDER WHAT  I THOUGHT IT WOULD AND THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DROPPING IN HEIGHT AND THE BOUNCE.

EVALOUATION:I THINK THAT WE COULDVE BEEN MORE FOUSED ON THE PROJECT AND MAYBE RECORED THE RESULTS MORE

SOLUBILITY EXPERIMENT

Aim:
To investigate the solubility of baking soda, table salt, and copper oxide to see which is the most soluble

Equipment:
100mL beaker, 100mL measuring cylinder, salt, baking soda, copper oxide, stirring rod, spatula.

Method:
  1. Fill a beaker with water
  2. Add a spatula full of baking soda.
  3. Stir the solution until it dissolves.
  4. Repeat step 2 and 3 until no more will dissolve.
  5. Record how many spatula fulls were added.
  6. Repeat the experiment with salt and copper oxide.
Results:
baking soda 4
copper oxide nothing doesn't dissolve
salt 12

Separating and mixing

MAKING A COPPER SULFATE SALTAim: To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper oxide with an acidEquipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute sulfuric acid, measuring cylinder, 2x 100mL beakers, bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, thermometer, spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod.Method:
  1. Add 20mL of sulfuric acid to a 100mL beaker. Heat to 70degrees. Turn off your bunsen.
  1. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide. Stir for 30secs
  1. Repeat step 2 until no more dissolved.
  1. Fold filter paper and place in a funnel. Place the funnel in the second beaker.
  1. Make sure your first beaker is cool enough to hold and then pour it into the funnel. Gently swirl and allow to filter through.
  1. Rinse the beaker and fill with 50mL of water and place on a tripod.
  1. Place evaporating basin on top of a beaker and pour some solution in.
  1. Gently heat until the solution has reduced by half.
  1. Take off heat and allow to cool.
Results:
The acid quickly reached the required temperature of 70 degrees and it then took multiple portions of the copper sulfate before the solute was no longer dissolving and a very dark blue solution was present. After filtering the solution it became a light blue.
We then placed that solution in an evaporating basin

After reducing it by half we left it overnight.
The next day there were little blue crystals formed in the basin and no more solvent.

Conclusion:
This experiment involved dissolving a solute in a solvent to create a solution. We then filtered the solution and evaporated it until we were left with the solid again, in the form of crystals- a successful experiment!

P.E 2018 9Hh athletic training

On my first attempt on this day throwing a shotput, a measured at 4.8m on my second throw I got 5.2m which I was really surprised about. One thing I need to remember about while pushing my shot put out is to not walk out of the side of the circle only out the back.

For long jump, i only jumped once at that measured at 3.1m and one thing I need to remember is to land with two feet.

For discus, I only threw once and was really surprised because I threw at 13.5 and one things I need to remember to use the power of my back leg.
