Hydraulic Power Tools

Hydraulic tools are often heavy equipment. These tools Transmit high-pressure hydraulic fluid throughout the various motors and cylinders. This fluid is automatically controlled by valves, which are distributed through hoses and tubes.

Water in a contained system has pressure put on it from one side. That pressure forces it against a piston on the other side of the container. This transfers the energy into the piston, forcing it upward to lift something. Because the pressure on the water will not let it flow backward, the piston can never move in the opposite way unless that pressure is released. This means that whatever the piston is lifting is secure until the system operator allows it to be released. 

Safety precautions


Only fill pump to the recommended level; only fill when the connected cylinder is fully retracted.
Check each component before you set up your hydraulic system. Do not use damaged or worn components. Turn them in for repair or replacement.You must know the weight of what you intend to lift and choose a ram with at least 20% more capacity. Be aware of possible load shifts requiring more capacity at any particular lifting point.

Engineering Power Tools

Mains electricity is the general-purpose alternating-current electric power supply. In New Zealand, Mains voltage is 230V. Which is an alternating current (a.c.) This means that the current is constantly changing direction. Which means it changes direction and back again 50 times per second. Mains powered tools are the tools Mains power can only be used on (eg not battery-powered tools).  

We use Power tools are used in industry, in construction, in the garden, for housework tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and around the house for driving (fasteners), drilling, cutting, shaping, sanding, grinding, routing, polishing, painting, heating and more.
Check the handle and body casing of the tool for cracks or other damage. If the tool has auxiliary or double handles, check to see that they installed securely. Inspect cords for defects: check the power cord for cracking, fraying, and other signs of wear or faults in the cord insulation. If your tools won’t start, it could hint at some larger electrical problems, including a short or part malfunction. Your tool starts, but the power level is so weak that you’d probably be better off with a manual screwdriver. or handsaw. Or a bicycle pump.

RCD stands for Residual Current Device. It's a device that prevents any fatal electric shocks if you touch anything that might be live. Such as bare wire. An RCD will most likely be used in the workplace, or at home.

Double insulation is an appliance and tools that have two levels of insulating materials between the electrical parts of the appliance and any parts on the outside that you can touch. The double insulation construction of appliance and tools allows the manufacturer to produce a lower-cost product.

Making sure that the cords on the power tool don't have any breaks in it or wires aren't on the outside, is some safety checks you need to check before using each tool.

Hazards of extension cords. If the extension cord is covered, heat cannot escape as a result, the cord will catch fire. Making sure extension cords are visible and not running across highly trafficked area's as they are a tripping hazard for people which are walking in that area.

Always wearing appropriate PPE is a must. PPE such as goggles, dust masks, gloves, hard hats and safety boot must be worn at all times.

Air compressor

Pneumatic tools are powered by air that's typically delivered from an air compressor. Air compressors work by forcing air into a container and pressurizing it. They then force air through an opening in the tank where pressure builds up. Just like an opening of a balloon; we can use compressed air as energy as it's released. The three most common air compressors are the reciprocating, rotary screw and centrifugal. However, a two-stage double-acting reciprocating compressor is the most energy-efficient air compressor. Because it compresses air in both downward and upward strokes, doubling the capacity of the cylinder. Air compressor power tools can range from an air impact wrench, air drill, air hammer or air ratchet wrench.

Safety
  • Do not use gas air compressors indoors.
  • Perform a routine safety check before each use of your air compressor: Check hoses, ensure proper power supply, check the oil level, etc.
  • Always wear eye protection such as safety goggles.
  • Wear hearing protection when operating your air compressor.
When using tools such as Impact driver, Air ratchet, Dust off Gun and Air riveter, you must take extra safety precautions such as...
  • Never wearing a tie, loose clothing or jewellery (Watch, rings, Etc)
  • Tie long hair back or secure under a cap.

Points to discuss:


What is the effect of an over-the-shoulder shot? It will connect with your characters.
What film aspect shows a disconnection between characters?  Users' studio binders software.
How does the director of this scene show the disconnect of the characters? Emotional disconnection with the viewer and his expression.

What eventually totally isolates the female character? they were on the same page then it changed, also no because his and her facial expressions are the main points of that shot.

What are the 3 ways directors use blocking in the film? Space, shapes, lines.
What are the 3 basic shapes for film blocking? Circles, Triangles, Squares.
What are the emotions associated with these shapes? Circles make you feel better?
What two things can blocking help with? Visual tension.

What are the purposes of the whip pan and the slow pan? Whip quickly moving to see something
Slow gives us time
What is the purpose of the tilt shot? It reveals something to catch our attention
What does the reverse dolly zoom help show? Funny kind of punctuation to nature
What the difference between a Steadicam and a dolly shot? On track to give us a different version
What can the hand-held shot help create for the viewer? Raw shaky feeling
What should directors ask themselves with their camera movement? What will this bring to the viewers
Camera movement should be doing what? Shows what's happening

What are the ways directors can contrast in the film? The director can have a scene that is black and white and others are bright and colourful
What is contrasted in Spike Jonze’s ad? It is showing the mood that a person has when they are sad, happy excited.
Why did he contrast these things? To show how someone is when they are surrounded by people and how they feel in the comfort of their own home.

What is the Dutch angle? The shot that has a noticeable angle

Who and when created the dutch angle? The early 1900s, German expressions
What 3 things do directors need to consider for the Dutch angle? Read the moment, Consider the moment, Enhance the moment.
What 4 things can enhance a Dutch angle? Medium close up, Dutch angle, Wide profile, Closer to eye line
Points to discuss:
What is a motif? Any recurring element.
Why are they important? They are made to make sure the story is all the same.
What makes a great work of art? Colour detail.

What is a POV shot? A point of view shot shows what the character is doing threw His/Her eyes.

What is a ‘point of thought’ shot? A point of thought shot is when you cans ee how the charter is feeling/ their thoughts.
Why are they important? Because they help us understand how things are going through charters' life.
Points to discuss:
What is an insert shot? It is an isolated shot that shows a specific shot.
What is the purpose of an insert shot?  They want the viewer to understand something
What are the 3 main aspects of the insert shot? Notice something, Object or set of object, Communication.
What 3 things help the audience feel about the insert shot? Opposition, Timing, colour
The composition of the insert shot helps with what in the film?  Camera movement, Shot size, Shot angle
Colour in the insert shot helps with what in film? To show what they want you to see.
How long you dwell on the insert shot helps show what? They show close-ups to show the viewer specific things kinda like a hint

Points to discuss:
How does colour in film affect people? To create a mood
What are the 3 factors in determining colour?  Hue, Saturation, Brightness
Why is the hue in ‘The Matrix’ mostly green?  Has silky quality
Why do some films desaturate? The colour is drained.
What can brightness and a lack of brightness show in a film? Can be affected by unusual colours

Points to discuss:

What is an establishing shot? Its the start of sequence or scene
Why is it used? because it helps us get a feel of the characters.
Why are establishing shot usually the most expensive? It shows every shot and makes it better.

Creative writing level 1 // English // 2020



“Ahhhhhhh” I screamed at the top of my lungs as I gasped for air; I wasn’t sure how long I’ve been down there. I stopped for a minute to check my surroundings, but there was only the deep dark ocean nearby.  I turned on my back and tried to swim away as the thunder and lightning rumbled. I’m exhausted, I cried hoping that someone would hear me but no one did. I had been swimming for ages but was going nowhere so it seemed.

I continued to float on my back as I became numb, I then felt a tug from underwater. I began to freak out, “WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?” I shouted. The tugging was consistent. I was struggling to breathe as my lungs filled with water, Death only seconds away I felt my body begin to give in I was terrified. I gave in, as my body submerged underwater I felt my soul leave my body. My body sinking to the bottom of the ocean, it felt as though I was a deflated balloon vanishing from the sight of any living creature. 

As my body finally plummets to the bottom of the deep sea it hits me, No more Family or  Friends, Will they wonder what happened to me? Will I be missed? Will they even notice? Will I have a funeral? As all these thoughts rush into my brainless head I realized it's the end.

STUFF THIS! I thought, Life was everything to me and how could I just give up?  I couldn’t! “ITS TORTURE” I cried. The brutal struggle trying to fight for you life but having no control, I pushed my feeling less feet off the bottom of the ocean hoping that maybe I had enough strength to get out of horrid water. Of course I was wrong, I continued to gasp for air but I was just swallowing water. I could see life flashing between my eyes, I suddenly felt a humongous Lack of energy.

Creative writing draft

SLAM!!!!!!! Goes the basement door as Bailey walks in furiously. 
Bailey softly wipes the tears from Lolas's faces after Hearing the unbearable news.
“Aunt Kathy called from the hospital and said the surgeon couldn’t save Mum,” Lola says, gently. 
“HOW!!!!! WHY!!!! WHAT???” Morgan replied while tears rolled down her face consistently.
The news was awful and without a doubt heartbreaking,  The family spent the rest of the day reminiscing
all the good memories they shared with their Mum, I'm going to miss waking up on Christmas and the look on her
face as well opened up our gifts" says Morgan as she busted out crying.


The next day Morgan wakes up to the sound of glass shattering, thing slamming and Bailey yelling. Morgan sprints
upstairs sees blood oozing from Baileys hands and arms she soon sees a knife laying on the ground surrounded in his
blood, Morgan screams " AHHHH WHAT THE HECK, ARE YOU OKAY?" he rapidly runs out of the house while blood
drips from his clothes and wounds.

Chicken Leg Dissection// Science//10Hh

Chicken Leg Dissection

Aim:    In this Dissection, I will locate and describe the various tissues and structure of the drumstick and thigh of Chicken.


Equipment:       Chicken drum with the thigh
              Dissecting probe
              Scalpel
              Dissecting scissors 
              Paper towels
              Dissecting tray
              Gloves
              Disinfectant hand wash and spray

Method:          


  1. Place the chicken leg on a Dissecting tray and examine the exterior features. The tough outer layer is called the epidermis (Skin). The small bumps covering the skin is where the feathers were attached
  2. Examine the lower leg. This is called the drumstick and it is the equivalent (same as) of your lower leg. The large muscle at the back of the leg is the same as your gastrocnemius. It also includes two bones- the tibia (large one) and the Fibula (the smaller/thinner one.
  3. Examine the upper leg. On both the chicken leg and human, They both have a thing called the thigh this is called the femur
  4. Carefully pull the skin off by sliding it down and off the lower leg. You may need to use the scalpel to remove it. But be careful not to cut any muscle tissue.
  5. The muscles of the leg, like all muscles, work in bundles. Separate a bundle of muscle by inserting your thumb into the muscle of the lower leg. you'll notice that the muscle bundle is covered in a shiny lining called the fascia and this makes it hard to separate but if you push hard enough you will tear ut find that separating muscle bundles is a lot easier.
  6. At either end of the muscle, you will see white cord-like tissue. These cards are called tendons. Tendons attached to the bone.
  7. Using the scalpel, carefully remove all the muscles from the lower leg. using your dissection probe to examine any blood vessels you find and try to determine which muscles the blood is supplied to.
  8. Near the bone, you should see thin, thread-like strands. these are the nerves
  9. Using the dissection scissors, cut across the tendons that join the muscles to the bones. Be careful not to cut any ligaments that attach bone to bone. You should end up with all the bones still attached to each other, but no muscle tissue present.
  10. Move the bones around the joints, The main joint between the bones of the lower leg and the femur is a hinge joint like the one in your knee. Not how the bones can move only in one plane.
  11. Using your scalpel, carefully cut the ligaments, keeping the bones together.
  12. In the joint between, the nones is a piece of cartilage. Cartilage allows joints to move smoothly and protects the bones against shocks to the body.
  13. Break one bone in half and examine the marrow. This is where blood cells are made
  14. Clean up your work area. Ensure you clean your bench using antibacterial spray. Wash your hands thoroughly with plenty of antibacterial soap and water,




Results:          


My observations from this experiment is that... The Chicken smells like a rubbish bin, but things I could see was each tendon and I ended up removing some, I could see and feel the muscles. The muscles feel like a more frim like an overcooked piece of steak. The tendons are not what I expected they feel like a very thin noodle type silicone. trough out this experiment I learnt how to understand the human leg skeletal muscle system by comparing it to the chicken. I saw how the joints work and why cartilage is needed, I saw tendons and ligaments and can now point them out on the human body

This will really mess up your physical well being because you are gonna end up so reliant on the drug and become addicted. Things you can do to help someone who is struggling with being addicted to this drug is:Cognitive behavioral therapy.Contingency management.Family education.12-step support programs.

Breakfast muffins// Home ec

Last week we cooked Breakfast muffins, these where really yum we did end up changing around some of the ingredients but here is the updated recipe.
Ingredients 

1/2 Tbsp olive oil 
1/2 onion diced
4 slices ham
4 cherry tomatoes
1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
1 Tbsp parsley chopped/ diced
1/2 tasty cheese
1/2 smoked paprika
2 eggs
to taste sea salt and cracked black pepper
1/2 cup milk

Directions

  1. preheat oven to 185c on fan bake.
  2. line 8 large muffin holes (or a regular 12 tray) with baking paper squares large enough to come up the sides. (We used a canola oil spray)
  3. heat the oil in a frying pan and saute onions for 3-4 mins until the onion is soft. Set aside to cool.
  4. in a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, parsley, flour, cheese, paprika and season.
  5. add the cooked onions and ham and stir to combine.
  6. whisk together eggs and milk and fold into other ingredients gently until just combined.
  7. spoon into prepared trays and bake for 12-15 mins until golden and puffed.


Things I will next time definitely add more ham and cheese and less parsley,
Things I learned, I learned how to saute properly and now I can do that easier next

Chocolate double helix// science// 10Hh

Double Helix made out of Chocolate.
A pair of parallel helices intertwined about a common axis, especially that in the structure of the DNA molecule (but instead this one is made out of chocolate)

Aim- To make a successful Double Helix made from chocolate
Equipment- One block of chocolate, Bowl, baking paper, piping bag, microwave, freezer, Spoon.


Method: 

  1. Place all the Chocolate into the bowl
  2. Put in the microwave for 30 take out an repeat if needed
  3. When it's done lay down a flat piece of baking paper
  4. Open the piping paper and spoon all the chocolate into it then cut a small hole at the tip
  5. draw one wiggly line then another identical but mirrored then draw a line connecting the to sides of the helix together
  6. place in the freezer

Observations
While making this double helix it was quite difficult because it was hard to make both sides of the helix's identical, but I tried to do the best as I could!!


Conclusion
Well obliviously it wasn't a real double helix but considering that it was made out of chocolate I think it looks pretty good, Next time I would definitely have focused more on the detail and maybe used different kinds of chocolate and maybe coloured some.




















Discussion
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the same in all living things. It looks like a twisted ladder known as a Double Helix. DNA is made up of continuous units called Nucleotides. A Nucleotide is made up of sugar and phosphate also a base. Both sides made up of the Sugar and phosphate are joined together by chemicals called Nucleotide bases.

Evaluation
A couple of things that would make it easier on you is...

  • Place the chocolate into the piping bag before melting then melt it in the piping bag.
  • Draw a couple of different diagrams so you have options.
Next steps
Things I could have done better/change...
  • I would have definitely paid more attention to the details.
  • I would use different colours and flavors so that it would look a lot better.
I think that could have done better if I did both of thing but I'm still proud that it has the same outline as the double helix.
